Indian vice-captain Shubman Gill addressed the media on Saturday ahead of India's high-stakes Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Pakistan. Gill downplayed the pressure associated with the marquee fixture, stating that the team treats every game with the same intent. Gill also talked about his role as vice-captain and whether it has impacted his batting in a positive way.

“Vice-captaincy hasn’t changed anything. Whenever I am batting, I am playing as a batter. India vs Pakistan doesn’t change anything. We play to win every match,” Gill asserted.

Gill says Champions Trophy final is the biggest game not India vs Pakistan

While acknowledging the excitement surrounding the rivalry, Gill maintained that the bigger picture remains the tournament itself. “India vs Pakistan is a big match, but the final is always the biggest match of any tournament,” he remarked.

“We definitely want to play positive and aggressive cricket. 300-325 will be very good score on this wicket. The team batting well in the middle overs will have a better chance of winning,” Gill said.

“Toss won’t matter as there is no dew. Team batting second will have more pressure,” he added.

Providing an injury update on Rishabh Pant, Gill revealed that wicketkeeper-batter missed India’s training session due to a viral illness and not because of any injury.

Reflecting on his recent century against Bangladesh, Gill called it one of his most satisfying knocks. “One of my most satisfying hundreds for India. There was pressure in that game, but we ensured not to lose wickets because the target wasn’t big,” he explained.
