After all the political drama witnessed between India and Pakistan in the Men’s Asia Cup, the two arch-rivals are set to meet again, albeit in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup. The Men in Blue had defeated Pakistan thrice in as many meetings en route to winning the continental tournament for a record-extending ninth consecutive time – and for the second time in the T20 format.

The rivalry is even more lopsided in India’s favour when it comes to the women’s game, especially in the ODI format, because of which the Women in Blue enter as the strong favourites in the match that takes place on Sunday .

It’s not just in World Cup meetings that India are unbeaten against Pakistan – they have won each of their 11 meetings against their arch-rivals since the two sides first faced each other in Karachi in December 2005. Their most recent meeting in the 50-over format had taken place in the previous World Cup, with the Women in Blue collecting a massive 107-run victory in Mount Maunganui.

The two teams have had contrasting starts to the tournament so far; while India defeated co-hosts Sri Lanka by 59 runs (DLS Method) in the rain-affected tournament opener in Guwahati, Pakistan suffered a seven-wicket thrashing against Bangladesh two days later.
