There were serious doubts over the possibility of India and Pakistan meeting again in the Asia Cup after their Group A match in Dubai ended on a controversial note last Sunday . Not only did India captain Suryakumar Yadav ignore his Pakistani counterpart Salman Ali Agha during toss, the entire Indian team gave their arch-rivals the cold shoulder after cruising to a seven-wicket victory, refusing to step out of their dressing room for the post-match handshake.
Pakistan did not take kindly to India’s snub ; not only did they ask for match referee Andy Pycroft to be removed from the remaining matches of the tournament, they had also threatened to boycott their final group match against hosts United Arab Emirates, which would have brought their campaign to a damp end.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), however, eventually came to its senses and gave Salman and Co the green light to play the match against UAE, which began an hour later than originally scheduled. Pakistan ended up winning the contest by 41 runs to book their passage into the Super 4s, where they are joined by India – the first team to qualify for the second round – as well as defending champions Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
