Abu Dhabi pitch report from Waqar Younis and Ravi Shastri

Good pitch. Played well yesterday and it’s a similar pitch being used. Nice sprinkle of grass, but underneath it’s dry. Not much spin but you can attack in powerplay. Abu Dhabi produces best limited-overs pitches (in UAE).

What both captains said at the toss

Suryakumar Yadav: We are looking to bat first. We have not batted first in this competition and we want to know our depth. Having game time is important going into the Super 4s. We want to continue the good habits we are doing in the first two games and want to continue to do that. It is looking nice and our openers will assess it further. We have two changes – Harshit comes in, one more guy comes in, I have become like Rohit (laughs).

Jatinder Singh: I would have batted first. It is a great experience to take from here. Our team is young, lack exposure but this gives them a good chance to come here and test themselves. It is a great opportunity to share the field with India and get a look at their mindset. We have two changes.

Can Sanju Samson open tonight to get some time in the middle?

Sanju Samson is yet to face a proper test in his new middle-order role as India have had easy chases against UAE and Pakistan. With today’s clash against Oman carrying little pressure, the management may look to push him up the order, possibly opening with Abhishek Sharma, to ensure he gets some valuable time in the middle before bigger matches.

Will India look to experiment against Oman considering it's a dead rubber?

With qualification already sealed, India may look to test their bench strength against Oman. Young pacer Harshit Rana, who had a long net session on the eve of the game, could be handed some match time. Jasprit Bumrah could be rested to accommodate the pacer, given that this is not a high-stakes game and Bumrah’s fitness is of utmost importance.

How Oman have fared in their last five T20Is

Oman haven’t done well in their last five outings. They won a tied game against the USA in May, and followed it up with a rain-hit DLS win over Canada. However, they lost narrowly to the USA in another close contest five days later. In the Asia Cup, they were bundled out for just 67 against Pakistan before falling to UAE by 42 runs.

Kuldeep Yadav says Asia Cup Dubai pitches are helping him more than those in Champions Trophy

“I feel these wickets are perfect for spinners. Because you get bounce and the zip. If you compare to the Champions Trophy, the wickets [then] were very slow and you had to put a lot of revs on the ball to get the extra bounce and the pace as well. Those tracks, it was difficult for a batter to score runs. For wristspinners, to get bounce and turn on those wickets was tough,” Kuldeep said at the pre-match press conference.

Why the India match is important for Oman despite being a dead rubber

This may be a dead rubber in terms of qualification, but the clash against India is a landmark occasion for Oman players. It’s the first time the two sides meet in international cricket, and for a developing team like Oman, the opportunity to face the reigning world champions is priceless. It’s a chance for their players to test themselves against some of the biggest names in the game and showcase their skills on a global stage. Will India be making changes to their playing XI for the final group match of the Asia Cup?

With the teams for the Super 4s having already been decided, India having been the first to qualify, the Men in Blue’s upcoming game against Oman effectively becomes a dead rubber.

The Men in Blue, thus, are likely to test their bench strength in this game – possibly by resting Jasprit Bumrah along with one of Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy and including both Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana.

India vs Oman Asia Cup match LIVE: Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Asia Cup Group A match between India and Oman!

It is the final group match of the ongoing tournament before the Super 4s, which is the second round, gets underway. Stay tuned for more updates!

India vs Oman, Asia Cup Group A LIVE: After their dominant victories over hosts United Arab Emirates and arch-rivals Pakistan, Team India will be aiming to complete a clean sweep of the group stage as they face Oman in Abu Dhabi on Friday. Not only will the upcoming match be India’s only game of the tournament at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, it will also be the final group match with the Super 4s getting underway on Saturday.

Oman, meanwhile, have lost both of their matches – the Jatinder Singh-led side had suffered a 93-run thrashing at the hands of Pakistan in their opening game before getting knocked out of the tournament with a 42-run defeat against neighbours UAE.

Oman will be hoping to put up a solid fight against the Men in Blue, who are strong favourites for the title this year, and make them sweat for victory, if the prospect of beating the world’s top-ranked T20I team appears too steep an ask.

Ahead of the match, there were reports suggesting that senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah could be rested for the Oman game, with either left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh or Harshit Rana brought into the XI in his place. There is also a possibility of both Arshdeep and Rana being included.

India vs Oman head-to-head

The upcoming Asia Cup Group A match will mark the first time India and Oman face each other on the cricket field in any format.

Abu Dhabi pitch and weather report

The wicket at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium is expected to have more runs in store for batters compared to the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Additionally, the pitch will also not be as spin-friendly as the other venue, which could lead to the Men in Blue opting for a toss-up between Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy and including both Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana while resting Bumrah.

The temperature, meanwhile, will be hovering around the 35-36-degree mark around the time the match is scheduled to get underway, and will be dipping below 33 by the time it gets over, meaning the players are in for another typical warm and humid evening.

When and where can I watch the India vs Oman Asia Cup match?

The match will be begin at 8 pm IST (6.30 pm local time) on Friday, 19 September. Cricket fans in India can tune into the live coverage on the Sony Sports Network on cable television or DTH connections, or watch the live stream on the SonyLIV website or mobile application.
