For the first time since March 2025, Indian legendary batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are back with Team India as the preparations for the upcoming ODI series in Australia kicked off on Thursday. The Indian cricket team reached Perth for the first ODI on Thursday at around 4 AM in the morning and the first training session was hosted at around 4-4.30 PM.
Back with the team, both Kohli and Rohit took part in the training session with the same enthusiasm as ever. Kohli was seen batting in the nets for around 20 minutes alongside Rohit, who batted around 10-15 minutes more than the former captain.
Rohit-Gambhir’s intense chat and Kohli’s batting session
The players were also involved in fielding drills. But what caught the eye was Rohit’s intense chat with coach Gautam Gambhir. Rohit was recently removed as ODI captain, with Shubman Gill taking over the charge.
The Indian Test team also witnessed a similar transition a few months back with Rohit retiring and Gill being made the new captain. Some say Rohit was forced to retire as selectors were set to drop him. These reports have created an environment where some fans believe Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are trying to force Rohit out of the Indian side.
Agarkar admitted in his press conference at the start of October that Rohit was removed from ODI captaincy with an eye on the 2027 ODI World Cup, by which the opener would be 40.
