India Test Squad Announcement Highlights: Shubman Gill has been named as India's new Test captain while Karun Nair, Sai Sudharshan, Shardul Thakur, Arshdeep Singh and Abhimanyu Easwaran have been handed call-ups to the national team. Mohammed Shami has not been picked due to fitness issues, while Sarfaraz Khan has been dropped.

The squad selection will be followed by a press conference at 1.30 PM IST at the BCCI headquarters. The new Test captain and players for the  England tour will be announced during the press conference.

Gill primed for Indian Test captaincy

India head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are expected to be part of the press conference. As per reports, Shubman Gill is set to become India’s new Test captain after Jasprit Bumrah pulled out of the race.

Besides the captaincy, BCCI selectors also have some tough decisions to make. They need two players to replace Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the squad. Karun Nair, Sai Sudarshan and Abhimanyu Easwaran are tipped as players who can come in.

It has also been reported that Mohammed Shami could be ignored once again after the Australia tour, while Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep and Harshit Rana could be picked besides Bumrah.
