Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has backed the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision to suspend the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 temporarily amid the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict. The announcement of a one-week suspension came on Friday afternoon, with the BCCI citing heightened tensions between India and Pakistan as the reason for the immediate halt.

Ganguly also felt that the IPL 2025 will be back soon and the conflict will be over in no time, as Pakistan will not be able to handle the pressure created by the Indian armed forces, who have launched a retaliatory attack on the neighbouring nation since the Pahalgam terror attack.

Ganguly sees a quick comeback for IPL 2025

“There is a war-like situation in the country, and the BCCI had to do this as there are so many Indian and foreign players. Let’s hope the IPL restarts soon, as an important stage of the tournament is around the corner,” Sourav Ganguly told ANI.

“BCCI had to do this, especially Dharamshala, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Jaipur. These are all venues of IPL. It is necessary to do this according to the situation that happened last night. With time, it will get better and matches will also be played. BCCI will complete the IPL, and this situation will end very soon as Pakistan will not be able to handle the pressure for a long time,” he added.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is already planning for the resumption of IPL 2025. There is hope that the tension at the border may ease soon and the board has reportedly picked Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad as the three venues to conduct the remaining games if IPL 2025 resumes in May.

This, however, has not stopped the exodus of the overseas players as the majority of them are expected to leave India by Saturday.
