The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been officially suspended for one week by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in light of the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan. The decision was taken after Thursday’s Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala was abandoned midway due to a security threat.
In its official statement, the BCCI said that while it has full faith in the strength and preparedness of the armed forces, it believes the suspension is a prudent step in the collective interest of all stakeholders, players, franchises, broadcasters, sponsors, and fans. The IPL Governing Council arrived at the decision after receiving representations from most franchises and other key partners.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” the BCCI’s statement read.
“At this critical juncture, the BCCI stands firmly with the nation. We express our solidarity with the Government of India, the Armed Forces and the people of our country. The Board salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation, as they lead a resolute response to the recent terrorist attack and the unwarranted aggression by Pakistan’s armed forces,” the BCCI added.
The BCCI added that further updates regarding the new schedule and venues will be announced after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities.

The ongoing conflict escalated rapidly after Pakistan launched missile and drone attacks on multiple Indian cities, including Jammu and Jaisalmer. In Dharamsala, the PBKS vs DC match was immediately halted, and floodlights were switched off as a precautionary measure. The players from both teams were evacuated and transported safely to Delhi via a special train arranged by the BCCI.
A BCCI official had earlier told PTI, “It does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war,” hinting at the inevitable decision that was confirmed today.
IPL 2025 has already completed 58 of the 70 league matches, including the PBKS vs DC game that was called off last night. The playoffs were scheduled to be held in Hyderabad and Kolkata. Here’s a venue-wise distribution of the remaining 12 league matches – Lucknow (2), Hyderabad, Ahmedabad (3), Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru (2), Mumbai and Jaipur.
