Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli’s poor form continued on Thursday as they were dismissed cheaply early on in the second ODI against Australia at the Adelaide Oval. While Gill got out on nine off nine balls, Kohli suffered a historic second consecutive duck.

Under pressure to up the ante, Gill got caught at mid off by Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh. It was a nice diving catch by the Aussie to his right. Gill’s dismissal came on the first ball of the seventh over after India made just 17 runs in the first six overs.

Bartlett dismisses Gill, Kohli in same over

The main culprit for the slow start was former captain Rohit Sharma, who was on eight from 28 balls when Gill tried coming out against pacer Xavier Bartlett, attempting to drive him on the up, but ended up giving away a catch to Marsh.

It was double delight for Bartlett as he dismissed Kohli for a four-ball duck in the same over. The former India captain was forced to return to the dugout in quick succession as he missed out on a length ball that swung in. Kohli thought for a while but left without taking the DRS.

Even a DRS wouldn’t have helped Kohli, as the replays showed that the ball was going to hit the middle of middle. But it must have left his fans baffled as Kohli rarely gets out LBW in ODIs.

Kohli suffers historic low at Adelaide

Kohli had got out for an eight-ball duck in the first match at Perth and this is the first time that he has got out on a duck in successive innings in ODIs.

Also, it was the 100th time Rohit and Kohli were together at the crease in ODIs, but unfortunately, their partnership ended on zero runs.

With India in deep trouble in a must-win clash, Rohit and Shreyas Iyer must help India lay a strong foundation.
