Having returned to the Test scene after ages, Karun Nair was rendered with a chance to showcase his mettle in the first two Tests. Nair failed miserably in the 1st Test at Headingley, and then was promoted up the order which brought some resurgence but only just. Karun Nair forged a vital stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the 1st innings when KL Rahul was dismissed cheaply. He played positively and successfully nailed a few cover drives. Unfortunately, he could not take his innings beyond the 30-run mark. The right-hander made an ideal start in the second innings too but much like the 1st innings he squandered the chance of registering a remarkable score. He perished after scoring 26 runs in the 2nd innings at Edgbaston. India eventually won the Test by a massive margin of 336 runs.
Will Karun Nair feature at the Lord’s?
As less than 24 hours are left before the start of the 3rd Test at Lord’s, there is a huge uncertainty about whether Karun Nair will be served another chance or not. Given the fact that he could only add 20 runs to the total in the combined innings of the 1st Test, Nair’s selection in the 2nd Test also received a polarising reaction from fans, and it may remain unchanged if he gets another opportunity to inspire with the bat.

Aakash Chopra in favour of giving Karun one last chance
Former India opener Aakash Chopra has weighed in on the situation of Karun Nair and insisted the decision makers to give him “one final chance” before pulling the plug on him.
“I would say give Karun Nair one more chance for sure, because this is now Karun Nair’s final chance. He played earlier, scored a triple century, and then got dropped. It was slightly unfair at that time,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“Then he scored a lot of runs and returned to the team. He asked cricket to give him a second chance. He went to Vidarbha, and cricket gave him a second chance. However, at some stage, that story will also end, and this is the match. In the first two matches, we have seen glimpses that he can bat well, but he hasn’t scored too many runs,” he observed.
