Sourav Ganguly heaps praise on Team India

Ahead of the start of the 3rd Test, former India captain Sourav Ganguly has weighed in on the situation of Team India and noted both the ups and downs that have transpired till now in the Test series. Ganguly is pleased with the way India have played both Tests but did not rave too much about the team as only two Tests have taken place, highlighting the fact that there is still a long way to go in the series.

“India has played well. They are playing well. Even though they lost in Leeds, India has played well. But again, next test, it’s a long way to go. It’s too early to say,” Ganguly told IANS while speaking to reporters on his birthday.

The Lord’s is known to present good cricketing tracks and a similar surface will be expected to come about on Thursday when the 3rd Test will begin. Ganguly paid attention to the pitch factor and expressed optimism, believing that the team could bundle out England twice in the match.

“Lively pitch is India’s advantage. Our batsmen will score well. We will be in a position to take 20 wickets. We can take 20 wickets. It’s an equal advantage.”

Sourav Ganguly impressed with Shubman Gill

Team India’s impressive performance can be credited to the fact that Shubman Gill has led from the front. India’s new Test captain smashed a century in both innings of the Edgbaston Test. He broke records by amassing a total of 430 runs in the Test. Ganguly praised the batter but also gave him a heads-up about what lies ahead.

“260, it’s phenomenal. I’m sure his career will take a new direction. And I believe that he’s a middle-order player. Right now it’s a honeymoon period, so tomorrow the expectations will be high. Four days later, the tests will be increased.”
