The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could soon make a move to get Pakistan’s Mohsin Naqvi removed from the Director post on the board of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had confirmed after the Asia Cup 2025 trophy fiasco that the Indian cricket body would be lodging a complaint against Naqvi at the ICC in November.

The recent tussle between BCCI and Naqvi, who is also the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief, started at the Asia Cup 2025 as India refused to take the trophy from him after beating Pakistan in the final. The Indian team did not want to take the trophy from a Pakistani politician just a few months after the Pahalgam attack.

Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s minister, could not digest the humiliation as he also took the trophy to the ACC office in Dubai. He has since refused to hand over the trophy to BCCI, insisting on presenting it to the team himself .

BCCI rebuked Naqvi at a recent ACC meeting and is reportedly also planning a no-confidence motion against the chairman in the Asian body, but a much bigger action could take place at ICC, which is headed by Jay Shah.

BCCI plans big action vs Naqvi at ICC

As per a report in the new agency PTI, BCCI would be raising the trophy fiasco at the ICC meeting next month. However, things can get feisty as the Indian cricket board may also try to get Naqvi “censured” and “even removed” as Director in the ICC.

“It remains to be seen what will be the long-term ramifications for the PCB or Naqvi because the BCCI is clear he (Naqvi) didn’t have any right to insist on handing the trophy himself to the Indian team and refusing to send it to the BCCI who were official hosts of the event,” a BCCI source said.

Meanwhile, Naqvi has refused to relent and has asked the ACC official not to touch the Asia Cup trophy without his approval.

“As of today, the trophy is still in ACC offices in Dubai with clear instructions from Naqvi that it should not be moved or handed over to anyone without his approval and in person presence,” a source close to Naqvi told PTI.

He is still planning to hand over the trophy himself to India.

“Naqvi has given clear instructions that only he will hand over the trophy in person (whenever that happens) to the Indian team or BCCI,” he added.
