The West Indies cricket team was lambasted once again on social media as India romped to 318/2 on Day 1 of the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Yashasvi Jaiswal was batting on 173 at Stumps and captain Shubman Gill was on 20 not out. Earlier, Sai Sudharsan scored 87 and KL Rahul added 38.

Jomel Warrican took both the wickets as all other West Indies bowlers were made to toil hard on a sunny day in the national capital, leading to some intense criticism on social media claiming that such matches will harm Test cricket in the long term.

Fans slam the West Indies team for hurting Test cricket

“Big fan of Indian cricket team here, but this series is joke. West indies is not competitive at cricket. This series is so one sided, this is not sports. Enough of this nonsense, stop setting up series against WI Pak SL Afg Bang Zim,” Indian fans Syed Zohair wrote on X.

Popular cricket handle ‘Caribbean Cricket Podcast’ also seemed resigned, noting that the West Indies team’s lack of fight is hurting the game of cricket.

“On a serious note this is actually sad to watch. West Indies players have looked resigned to defeat since Lunch. India batters scoring with ease piling on runs. Not enjoyable for anyone who loves the sport.”

“Seemingly heading towards another humiliation! I’ve watched my beloved West Indies Test Cricket team slide into cricketing abyss. I never imagined we could sink so low for so long, with no end in sight,” A West Indies fan, Joe Aldred, who resides in England, wrote.

Famous cricket journalist Vikrant Gupta called the ongoing Test series one of the least enjoyable in India in the past three to four decades.

“I can’t recall a single Test series in India with such low interest and contest - and my earliest memory of watching cricket is Asif Iqbal’s Pakistan touring India in 1979. The biggest craze and crowd pullers those days always were, yes, the West Indies,” Gupta shared on X.

The first match of the two-game series in Ahmedabad lasted less than three days as India won by an innings and 140 runs.
