The BCCI has released further details on medical treatment provided to Shubman Gill and his travel plans for the second Test against South Africa in Guwahati.

Indian captain Shubman Gill will be travelling with the team to Guwahati for the second Test against South Africa, which starts on Saturday, but his participation is still in doubt. Gill retired hurt in India’s first innings in the Kolkata Test due to a neck injury, which forced him to stay at the Woodlands Hospital in the city for a night.

He was released on Sunday after a medical examination, but continues to struggle with neck spasms, missing the training session ahead of the do-or-die second Test match. After losing the first match of the two-Test series by 30 runs, India desperately want Gill to be available for the last match.

BCCI releases latest injury update on Gill

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced that Gill we be travelling to Guwahati with the Indian team. They are supposed to travel on Wednesday, but the board refused to confirm that Gill would play in the second Test.

While confirming Gill’s stay at the hospital, BCCI said that the medical team is still monitoring him and the decision regarding his participation in the Guwahati Test will be taken later.

“Team India captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test against South Africa and was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of day’s play,” BCCI said on X.

“He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on 19th November, 2025.

“He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team and a decision on his participation in the 2nd Test will be taken accordingly.”

India already have Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal in the squad in case Gill does not get fit. The former was seen having an intense nets session on Tuesday at the Eden Gardens, but India may not want to add another left-hander to the playing XI.
