The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to announce India's squad for the much-anticipated five-match Test series against England. The Men’s Selection Committee will convene on Saturday, 24 May in Mumbai to finalise the team, which will mark the beginning of a new era for Indian Test cricket without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
BCCI breaks silence on Test squad announcement
The selection meeting will be followed by a press conference at approximately 1:30 PM IST at the BCCI Headquarters. This announcement is expected to draw significant attention, not just for the team composition but also because the BCCI is widely tipped to name a new full-time Test captain following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the longest format.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are expected to address the media following the meeting. With Rohit and Kohli now retired from Test cricket, several new names are expected to be on the team list. Meanwhile, all eyes will be on the announcement of the new captain.
Names such as Shubman Gill , Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah have been circulating in various media reports for the top job but the truth will finally be revealed by the selectors tomorrow. The England series will be India’s first red-ball assignment of the new 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle.
The BCCI has already announced the India A squad for two first class matches against England Lions and one game against India’s main team scheduled to be held in June. Abhimanyu Easwaran has been named the captain of the side with Dhruv Jurel as his deputy.
