The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a big step towards improving its relationship with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after recent controversies. BCB recently sent a letter to the BCCI, asking if the two boards can collaborate on new initiatives beyond the proposed tour of the Indian men’s team to Bangladesh in September 2026.

India were initially planned to travel to Bangladesh in August 2025, but that white-ball tour was moved to September 2026 due to the worsening relationship between the two countries. The relationship between the two cricket boards became worse after Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was removed from the IPL.

While the BCCI never confirmed the reasons, it hinted that the decision to remove Rahman from IPL was taken due to a spike in attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. The ill-thought-out decision led to a massive controversy as Bangladesh refused to play T20 World Cup matches in India and the ICC was eventually forced to replace them with Scotland.

BCB sends letter to BCCI

Things, however, are now changing in Bangladesh with the election of a new government in February as Tarique Rahman became the new Prime Minister. The country and BCB are now trying to have a better relationship with India as compared to Muhammad Yunus’s interim government.

BCB is now willing to have more cricket engagements with BCCI and has sent a letter asking for the same. BCB Cricket Operations head Nazmul Abedeen confirmed the same to Prothom Alo.

“We have a series ahead for our men’s team. Last year, there was a planned women’s tour that was postponed. We reached out to see if anything new could be arranged in the time in between,” Abedeen said on Friday.

Meanwhile, the BCCI are yet to formally reply to the letter.

BCCI officials may have an internal discussion before sending a reply to BCB, but it’s also quite possible that the Indian board will reply kindly, as a healthy relationship between the two boards is in the best interest of world cricket.
