Sunil Gavaskar has sent strong advice to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) over Cameron Green after the franchise started the IPL 2026 with back-to-back defeats. KKR invested heavily in Australian all-rounder Green, paying Rs 25.20 crore for him in the IPL 2026 auction.
But a lower back injury has forced Cam Green to play just as a batter. Cricket Australia has said that Green is still "rebuilding his bowling loads," which means there’s still a long way to go before he becomes available for bowling.
Sunil Gavaskar questions Green’s form
Green hasn’t shone with the bat as well, scoring 18 and 2 in the first two matches, respectively. He batted at No 3 and No 4 positions in the first two matches.
With KKR now struggling to balance the team, Gavaskar feels they need to add a “specialist batter” to the playing XI, as it could help them score bigger totals and compensate for their weaker bowling.
“KKR will need to think about their combination if Cameron Green is not going to bowl. If he isn’t contributing with the ball, then they might have to consider bringing in another specialist batter,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.
“We know he has scored a hundred in the IPL and that he can bat well, but his form hasn’t been great recently. Yes, he scored a hundred in a red-ball game in Australia not long ago, but this is where the team needs to look closely at the numbers.”
Gavaskar added that Green’s inability to bowl and poor form with the bat are not the only issues for KKR, as their middle-order also looks weak.
