The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian media have been accused of playing politics and trying to create a rift among the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) members by a Pakistani media report in their attempt to impeach chairman Mohsin Naqvi as a result of not getting the Asia Cup 2025 trophy. Team India refused to take the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from ACC head Mohsin Naqvi after beating Pakistan in the final last Sunday, as the cricket administrator is also the Interior Minister of Pakistan, who has consistently engaged in cross-border terrorism.
Embarrassed by India’s boycott at the Asian stage, Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), was forced to leave the Dubai International Stadium, but on a power trip, he also took the trophy with him to his hotel.
In the subsequent ACC meeting, BCCI gave a good dressing-down as Naqvi tried to avoid the topic. The Pakistani political leader was also forced to congratulate India on winning the Asia Cup 2025. It has also been reported that BCCI could move a no-confidence motion against Naqvi to get him removed from the ACC president post due to his abusing his post and a formal complaint against him at the International Cricket Council (ICC) is also expected in November.
BCCI accused of playing politics in ACC
Naqvi, in the meantime, has stood firm on not giving the trophy back to India unless the players or the captain personally collect it from him at the ACC office in Dubai.
Amid the whole drama, a propaganda report in cricketpakistan.com.pk says that the BCCI is trying to create rifts within the BCCI to get Naqvi removed from his position. “Sources revealed that the PCB Chairman has become an irritant for India, prompting them to try to create rifts within the ACC,” the report read.

More ShortsThe report added that the ACC council of Test-playing nations is now split into two groups. BCCI has the support of Sri Lanka, while Bangladesh is siding with Pakistan. Afghanistan is currently undecided.
As proof of Bangladesh’s support for PCB, the report cited how Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Aminul Islam was present on the stage during the post-match presentation ceremony of the Asia Cup 2025 final and also handed the runners-up cheque to Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha.
It then accused the Indian media of trying to sow a rift between Pakistan and Bangladesh by highlighting that Salman Agha threw that cheque away. The report argued that captains often keep the cheque away before speaking to the broadcasters, but it’s generally not shown on camera. However, with Indian broadcasters Sony Sports being the official media rights holder, the incident of throwing away the cheque was deliberately shown on TV.
It ended with a message that PCB is ready to “thwart every negative tactic of India and will give a strong response.”
While the sequence of allegations and counter-allegations continues, certainly, the last chapter in the Asia Cup trophy fiasco is yet to be written.
