After India’s commanding 7-wicket victory against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday, the Indian cricket team used the moment to show solidarity with the families affected by the Pahalgam terrorist attack earlier this year. The Indian team sent a message of support and unity after the win, which they achieved in just 15.5 overs while chasing 128.

Gambhir, Gill pay tribute

Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir spoke to broadcasters after the match, expressing sympathy for the terror attack victims and appreciation for the armed forces’ efforts in Operation Sindoor. “As a team, we wanted to show solidarity to victims of the Pahalgam attack. Thanks to our soldiers for Operation Sindoor," Gambhir said.

India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill, who failed to perform with the bat, also shared a heartfelt message on social media. “Today’s win is dedicated to the victims of Pahalgam and to our brave armed forces who continue to safeguard us. The spirit of India lives on both on and off the field. Jai Hind,” Gill wrote.

Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav also dedicated the victory to the victims of the Pahalgam attack and thanked the armed forces. “Just wanted to say something. Perfect occasion, taking the time out, we stand by the victims of the families of the Pahalgam terror attack. We express our solidarity. Want to dedicate the win to all our armed forces who showed a lot of bravery. Hope they continue to inspire us all and we give them more reasons on the ground whenever we get an opportunity to make them smile," SKY said at the post-match presentation.

Pakistan scored 127/9 in 20 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah provided early breakthroughs before Indian spinners did their job perfectly to restrict Pakistan to a low score. Kuldeep Yadav picked up three wickets and once again won the Player of the Match.
