Europe’s obsession with Donald Trump just keeps growing.

From Viktor Orban in Hungary to Matteo Salvini in Italy and Geert Wilders in Netherlands, there has been no shortage of leaders who have been inspired by the ascent of the US president.

Now, Belgium is getting in on the act with a party named after Trump himself – the “Tous Réunis pour l’Union des Mouvements Populistes” (Trump) party.

Also known as the All United for the Union of Populist Movements party, the Trump party is seemingly a successor to far-right Wallonian parties Chez Nous and the Belgian National Front (NF).

Belgian is currently governed by a five-party coalition headed up by Prime Minister Bart De Wever. The country comprises Dutch-speaking Flanders, with 6.7 million people, francophone Wallonia, with 3.7 million, and multilingual Brussels, with 1.2 million.
But what do we know about this far-right party, whose founder says has been inspired by Trump’s views?

Let’s take a closer look

What we know

The Trump party will officially be launched on November 30, 2025. The far-right, French speaking outfit was founded by Salvatore Nicotra, the ex- head of the Belgian National Front (NF). Nicotra was previously the municipal councillor for the Brussels district of Saint-Gilles between 1994 and 2000.

The formation of the Trump party was first reported by Brussels-based news outlet _Bruzz_.

Nicotra says the party’s ideology is based on the views of the American leader and is seeking to publicly and deliberately ally himself with Trump’s image. “Donald Trump is the ultimate symbol of populism. He immediately embodies what we stand for,” Nicotra has said.

It has said it will contest Belgium’s federal elections as well as the 2029 European Parliament elections. It has also not ruled out contesting local polls. “Certainly the City of Brussels and Saint-Gilles, where I myself have been a municipal councillor for years, are options,” Nicotra said.

The party calls itself right-wing populist with a "social focus". Nicotra said around 40 per cent of its platform Is in line with with the Workers’ Party of Belgium (PTB), another 40 per cent with Vlaams Belang, and the rest is unique to the group.

Unlike the Vlaams Belang, the Trump party does not advocate for Flemish independence. Nicotra said the party instead promotes a united vision of Belgium.

“The biggest difference with Vlaams Belang? We are unitary, they are separatist,” Nicotra was quoted as saying.

Successor to Chez Nous, National Front

The Trump party seeks to continue the work of the Chez Nous and the National Front. These two parties, which were founded in 2021 and 1985 respectively, operate mainly in Belgium’s French-speaking Wallonia and Brussels. The Chez Nous, founded by Jérôme Munier and Grégory Vanden Bruel, was recently dissolved.

The party is home to several former National Front members including Emanuele Licari, who was expelled from the Vlaams Belang, Belgian’s biggest far-right outfit for glorifying fascism.

“The results for the FN showed that it scored particularly well there,” Licari said. “Brussels is more difficult from a sociological point of view. The results of Vlaams Belang in Brussels also demonstrate this. But if we find good candidates, why not?”

Other members of the party, include Jean‑Pierre Borbouse — previously from the NF and – and Daniel Féret, who was part of the old Front National.

Wever gives ultimatium

Wever earlier this month gave his coalition partners an ultimatum to agree to a federal budget by Christmas or face the collapse of the government. This after budget negotiations have dragged on for months and hit a wall this week, as parties remained divided on how they should repair Belgium’s government finances, prompting De Wever to report the deadlock to the king.

“That’s why I have asked: ‘Your majesty, give me 50 days’,” De Wever told parliament, adding that there would be no extension of this “maximum period”.

The budget deficit of the euro zone’s sixth-largest economy is set to hit 4.5 per cent of gross domestic product this year, with debt of 104.7 per cent of GDP, according to the central bank - well above the maximum agreed under EU budget rules. De Wever is looking for $11.66 billion of spending cuts and tax hikes by 2030 to cut the deficit and debt.

But the French-speaking liberal MR party, in particular, has so far refused to agree to a proposed increase of value-added tax or to skip the next automatic hike of wages linked to inflation.
