A bone-chilling murder has come to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district. What appeared to be a regular missing person complaint slowly turned into a meticulously planned crime. Now, the UP Police have arrested the wife of the deceased, identified as Ruby, along with her lover Gaurav, for committing the heinous crime.

Earlier, Ruby, a resident of Mohalla Chunni in Chandousi area, filed a missing person complaint of her husband Rahul, stating that her husband had not returned home on November 18. While it appeared like a normal complaint, the case took a sharp turn when police began investigations.

Here’s all you need to know about the chilling murder.

What happened?

When the missing person complaint was filed on November 18, it appeared to be a regular case, and the police began standard tracking procedures to locate the missing man.

On December 15, nearly one month after the investigation began, the police recovered a severely decomposed torso inside a black bag from a drain near the Eidgah area. The body was missing its head, arms, and legs, becoming a challenge for investigators. To identify the body, it was taken into custody. Superintendent of Police K K Bishnoi said, “The body was taken into custody, and a post-mortem was conducted. The forensic team carried out a detailed examination, and DNA samples were collected.”

Police found the name ‘Rahul’ written on the body and began reviewing the missing person’s complaints from nearby areas. They found a missing complaint of the same name, and further investigation revealed that his mobile phone had been switched off since November 18, the day he was reported missing.

Police began questioning the people close to Rahul as the probe progressed. They grew suspicious of Ruby, the missing person’s wife, due to contradictions in her statements. Their questioning led her to reveal details that further helped them to piece together sequences of events. Ruby and her partner, Gaurav, were taken into custody when the police came to know of their involvement.

How was Rahul killed?

Ruby later confessed to killing her husband with the help of her lover, Gaurav. During the confession, Ruby revealed that her husband had caught them in an illicit relationship, which led her to strike him with an iron rod and an iron pestle on the head. This killed him on the spot.

“The accused told police that they attacked Rahul with an iron rod and an iron pestle, killing him on the spot. They then brought a grinder and cut the body into parts,” Bishnoi said.

One part of the body was dumped in the drain where it was later recovered, while the remaining parts were taken to Rajghat and thrown into the Ganga river, he added.

Police have recovered the grinder allegedly used to cut the body, along with the iron hammer and other tools used in the assault.

DNA samples of the deceased have also been preserved and will be matched with those of his children to conclusively establish identity and strengthen the case, the SP said.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is underway, police added.

A similar case

In a similar case, a Merchant Navy officer was killed by his wife in Uttar Pradesh earlier. The woman, Muskan Rastogi, had been allegedly plotting to kill her husband, Saurabh Rajput along with her lover Sahil Shukla. The duo cut up Rajput’s body into 15 parts and put in a cement-sealed drum.

Rastogi later admitted to her parents that she had killed Rajput under heavy intoxication. The two were later arrested.

Largest, most powerful and nuclear-capable… How deadly will be the new Trump-class ships

Donald Trump announced plans for a new "Trump-class" of US Navy battleships, aiming to modernize the fleet and counter global adversaries. The ships are touted as 100 times more powerful than previous battleships, featuring hypersonic weapons, AI, and nuclear-armed cruise missiles. Analysts question the feasibility due to unclear funding, ambitious timelines, and concerns about the relevance and cost of large battleships in modern warfare.
