The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) released its list of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions for the first time on Sunday (August 11). According to the NPCI data, Indians conduct UPI transactions for mostly paying for groceries, mobile network bills, restaurants and service stations.
UPI transactions in July showed that groceries and supermarkets led the way with over 3 billion transactions worth Rs 64,882 crore. In comparison, fast food restaurants recorded 1.22 billion UPI transactions, and other eating joints and restaurants saw 1.15 billion.
The top five categories by volume were groceries, fast food, other restaurants, telecom services, and fuel stations. By value, the leading categories were debt collection, groceries, fuel stations, utility payments, and phone recharges.
