However, the survivor’s father has denied his daughter’s rape allegations, claiming she had fallen from a car.

The incident allegedly took place on the prestigious IIM Calcutta campus, just two weeks after a law student was gangraped inside the South Calcutta Law College campus.

What happened at the hostel? What does the FIR say?

Let’s find out:

Rape allegation at IIM Calcutta hostel: What happened?

The young woman has alleged that she was raped after being called to the boys’ hostel at IIM Joka.

The police have identified the accused as Parmanand Toppaunwar, a student from Karnataka, The Indian Express reported. He is expected to be produced before the Alipore court later on Saturday.

The woman consumed a drink at the hostel, which was allegedly laced with drugs. She then fell unconscious, News18 reported.

The accused was arrested after the woman filed an FIR at Haridevpur Police Station, media reports said.

The survivor said in her complaint that she was invited to the hostel on the pretext of a counselling session.

Once there, she was offered food and a drink, after which she lost consciousness, The Telegraph reported citing police sources.

When she woke up, she found herself inside the hostel and alleged that she had been raped.

She also claimed that the accused warned her not to tell anyone and threatened her with serious consequences.

Reports say police detained a male student from the hostel the same night. However, investigators are still checking if he is the main accused.

Preliminary findings suggest that the survivor and the accused first connected on social media. After a disagreement with someone she knew, she turned to the accused for advice.

He then called her to the campus for a conversation.

A mutual friend had come along with her, but the accused allegedly asked to speak in private and took her to an empty hostel room, where the alleged assault took place, The Telegraph reported.

Police are now going through CCTV footage and speaking to students on campus. They are also looking into how effective the hostel’s security setup is.

Statements from the survivor and others are allegedly being recorded. IIM Calcutta’s management has been kept in the loop, but the institute has not made any official comment yet, the report added.

Woman’s father denies rape allegations

The father of the woman has denied the rape allegation made by his daughter, saying she had fallen from a car.

Speaking to News18, he said, “No such incident happened with my daughter. I received a call around 9:34 PM, but my daughter did not disclose her location at that time. Over the call, she said that she fell from a car and that she was unconscious.”

He added, “I later on tracked her location, and it was found that she was at SSKM Hospital. The Haridevpur police rescued her after reaching the hospital.”

According to him, the woman is mentally stable and not under any trauma. However, he has not yet had a proper conversation with her, as she was asleep after returning home from the police station and hospital, Bhaskar English reported.

He said, “I will talk to her and get to know the full details, but as of now, I can clearly say that no such incident took place.”

What did the police say?

According to police, the accused stopped the survivor from signing the visitors’ register at the IIM Joka boys’ hostel.

As per the hostel’s rules, all visitors are required to enter their name and phone number in the register.

“We are trying to find out if the accused had brought other women to the hostel. More people could be involved,” a police officer told The Telegraph.

Inside the room, the woman was given a slice of pizza and a soft drink. Shortly after consuming it, she lost consciousness.

“She says she tried to resist in her condition. We are verifying her statements. A medical examination will be done,” the officer added.

It is still unclear whether the woman is a student of IIM Calcutta. Hindustan Times reported that she is not enrolled at the institute and had come from outside, without signing the visitors’ book as required.

However, The Telegraph and several other media outlets have reported that the woman is also a student at the same college as the accused.

Firstpost could not independently verify the authenticity of the information.

Kolkata law college rape case

This incident at IIM Calcutta follows closely on the heels of another rape case reported on June 25, where a 24-year-old law student was gang-raped on the South Calcutta Law College campus.

The main accused, Monojit Mishra, graduated from the same college in 2022 and had started practising law at Alipore Law College.

He was also the Organising Secretary of the South Kolkata district unit of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP). The party has denied any links with him and stated that legal proceedings will take their course.

After the incident, the college terminated Mishra’s services and expelled the two others accused.
