A fight over a parking space turned deadly in Delhi ’s Nizamuddin area on Thursday evening.
Asif Qureshi, 38, cousin of Bollywood actor Huma Qureshi, was stabbed outside his home in Jangpura Bhogal lane after an argument broke out over the parking of a two-wheeler in front of the main gate of his house.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical state, but doctors declared him dead shortly after. Police have since arrested both the accused.
Here’s what we know so far about the case.
What exactly happened?
On Thursday night, between 9:30 and 10 pm, Asif Qureshi noticed a scooter parked right in front of his house in Jangpura. He asked the person to move it, which led to a heated exchange.
Shaheen, one of Asif’s wives, told NDTV, “At around 9:30–10 pm, a neighbour parked a scooter right outside our house…My husband, Asif, requested him to move the vehicle away. The man abused Asif and threatened to come back.”
Minutes later, the man returned with his brother, and the situation turned violent. A CCTV footage from the lane captured one of the accused walking towards Asif and charging at him. A physical fight broke out, with both men pushing each other. A woman tried to step in to calm things down but was shoved aside.
Asif was then stabbed with a sharp weapon and collapsed. “I called Javed, my brother-in-law but by the time he reached, Asif had lost a lot of blood and died,” she added.
Asif was taken to the National Heart Institute in East of Kailash, but doctors declared him brought dead. “Doctors said he died an hour and a half ago,” Shaheen said.

He ran a poultry business in Delhi and is survived by his two wives.
Huma Qureshi’s father, Saleem Qureshi, also expressed grief and anger. “Two men parked a scooter in front of the house. Asif asked them to move it aside and not block the entrance. They (accused) were two, together they killed my nephew,” he said.
Actor Huma Qureshi has not issued a statement regarding the incident yet.
Who are the accused?
Police arrested two brothers, identified as Gautam, 18 and Ujjwal, 19, in connection with the case.
According to Sainaz Qureshi, his other wife, told police the brothers had earlier argued with Asif over the same parking spot, and things had escalated over time. On Thursday, Ujjwal had initiated the attack, officials said.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the two accused under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with murder, and Asif’s body has been sent for post-mortem.
Both are now in police custody and are a part of the ongoing investigation.
