It is set to be a busy Monday with several events lined up for the day.

Firstly, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will be visiting Moscow, where he will meet his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov to discuss bilateral ties. This comes ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India next month.

Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal will deliver its verdict on ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today in Dhaka. Meanwhile, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will attend the 13th Annual US-Indonesia Investment Summit today.

Japan and Indonesia will hold their third “2+2” security meeting of foreign and defence ministers in Tokyo. The Dubai Air Show 2025 is set to commence today, running for five days until November 21.

Jaishankar to meet Russian FM Lavrov in Moscow today

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is expected to meet his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Monday to discuss bilateral ties ahead of President Vladimir Putin’s visit to New Delhi next month.

According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Jaishankar is arriving in Moscow to lead the Indian delegation at the meeting of the Council of Prime Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on Tuesday. Pakistan, also a member of the SCO, will be represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. However, according to sources, there is no provision for a bilateral meeting between the two.

According to Kremlin sources, Putin is scheduled to meet the leaders of the SCO, which is hosted by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

Verdict in case against Sheikh Hasina

Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal will deliver its verdict on Monday in the case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Sheikh faces five counts of crimes against humanity charges linked to last year’s deadly student-led uprising in Dhaka.

Prosecutors have sought the death penalty for the deposed leader, now in India, accusing her of ordering lethal force against protesters in what became known as the July uprising. The crackdown, which triggered her downfall and flight across the border, left hundreds dead and thousands injured.

Former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and ex-inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun were also charged. Both Hasina and Kamal were tried in absentia after being declared fugitives.

Prabowo Subianto to attend the US-Indonesia Investment Summit

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will attend the 13th Annual US-Indonesia Investment Summit today. This high-profile event, co-hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Indonesia and the US Chamber of Commerce, is a crucial platform for fostering bilateral economic relations and attracting American foreign direct investment (FDI) into Indonesia.

The summit is likely to focus on the investment climate under the new Prabowo administration, with a particular emphasis on the “Golden Indonesia 2045” vision. Discussions are likely to focus on enhancing an efficient and transparent investment environment, with a strong stance against corruption.

Japan and Indonesia 2+2 talks

Japan and Indonesia will hold a so-called two-plus-two security meeting of their foreign and defence ministers in Tokyo today. This will be the third such meeting between the two countries, following the previous session held in 2021.

“Indonesia is an important country in terms of geopolitics,” said  Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi. “As fellow maritime nations, we are partners for whom strengthening defence cooperation is essential.”

Japan will be represented by Koizumi and Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, while Indonesia will send Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Foreign Minister Sugiono.

Dubai Air Show to begin

The five-day Dubai Air Show will commence today. The event will take place at a purpose-built venue at the Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) site in Dubai.

The event is expected to host over 1,500 exhibitors, more than 200 aircraft on static and flying display, and welcome over 148,000 industry professionals and 490+ official military and civil delegations from around the world. Day one will see discussions begin on a range of topics, including Aerospace 2050 (sustainability, space, and future leaders), Aviation Mobility, and the VISTA start-up stage.

This edition introduces new features like the Training Academy, an Innovation Zone, Space and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Pavilions, and the SkyView public area, which offers an immersive experience for aviation enthusiasts.

Macron to host Zelenskyy in Paris

French President Emmanuel Macron will host Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris today to reaffirm France’s long-term support for Ukraine.

This will be his ninth trip to France since the start of Russia’s war with Ukraine in 2022. The meeting will look to build on the momentum in terms of helping Ukraine following a meeting of Ukraine’s ‘Coalition of the Willing’ allies last month.
