It’s Monday and the US-Israel war against Iran continues.
In Iran, President Masoud Pezeshkian said that the killing of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US and Israeli strikes was a “declaration of war against Muslims”.
Also, today will see the high-stakes delegation-level talks between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in Delhi (March 2).
In other news, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is visiting the United States today. According to reports, he will approach US President Donald Trump on tariffs with a unified European front.

UN nuclear agency to hold meet
The United Nations’ nuclear agency will hold an extraordinary meeting on Iran today in the wake of the US-Israeli strikes on the Islamic Republic, aimed in part at Tehran’s atomic programme.
In a statement late Sunday night, the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency said it would convene a “special session of the IAEA Board of Governors on matters related to military strikes of the United States and Israel against the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran” at Russia’s request.
Iran had made the same request in a letter to IAEA chief Rafael Grossi on Saturday (February 28) following the strikes, which led to the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
As a result, the agency will hold a “special session of the IAEA Board of Governors on matters related to military strikes of the United States and Israel against the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran”, the IAEA said in a statement.
That extraordinary meeting will precede an already scheduled session of the board, which represents 35 countries.
Modi-Carney talks in Delhi
Delegation-level talks will be held today between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The two leaders are expected to assess progress across a wide range of sectors under the India-Canada Strategic Partnership framework, while also reviewing ongoing initiatives in trade and investment, energy cooperation, critical minerals, agriculture, education, research, innovation, and people-to-people ties.
Both governments have indicated that the forthcoming meetings are intended to reinforce the positive momentum built through personal interactions between the prime ministers over the past year, especially on the sidelines of the G7 and G20 summits in 2025.
Carney began his India to India from in an attempt to reset ties between the two nations after a period of strained relations.
German Chancellor heads to the US
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is set to begin his visit to the United States today (March 2) with a common European position after the US Supreme Court curtailed Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs.
“I will be in Washington in just over a week,” he added. “And I will go to Washington with a common European position," said Merz, according to reports.
After the Supreme Court struck down many of the sweeping duties imposed last year, US President Trump imposed an additional tariff on imports into the United States. According to several media reports, Merz will also meet with Trump as part of a unified European front on tariffs.
Melania to lead UN Security Council session
Melania Trump is set to make history by presiding over a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting, a significant first for a US first lady. The event is scheduled for today (March 2).
This comes after the United States assumes the rotating presidency of the 15-member council for March. President Donald Trump’s office confirmed that the meeting would “focus on education’s role in advancing tolerance and world peace.”
Mobile World Congress event
The global telecom industry’s flagship event, Mobile World Congress (MWC), is set to kick off its 20th edition in Barcelona, bringing together several major players from across the sector.
Firms are racing to integrate artificial intelligence into their products and services, even as debates rage around how the technology should be regulated.
According to the GSMA (Groupe Spécial Mobile Association), which has organised the event annually in the Catalan capital since 2006, around 109,000 business attendees are expected at the convention centre this year.
Around 60 government ministers from around the world are expected on stage, where over 2,900 companies’ stands will showcase the latest smartphones and connected services, according to reports.
