Firstly, US President Donald Trump will be visiting Saudi Arabia from today. Meanwhile, India will hold talks with European Union to begin 11th round of Free Trade Agreement talks.

The 78th Cannes Film Festival will commence today in France. Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian will testify in a court appearance against her Paris attackers over an armed robbery of her jewellery in 2016.

Donald Trump in Saudi Arabia

US President Donald Trump is set to visit Saudi Arabia today with the key focus on securing significant new investment for the US economy.

A central objective of the trip is to secure substantial investment commitments from Gulf nations. Saudi Arabia has pledged up to $1 trillion in US investments, focusing on sectors like artificial intelligence, semiconductors and rare earth minerals. Similarly, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are expected to announce significant deals, including a notable agreement involving the purchase of Boeing aircraft and advanced drones.

India, EU to begin 11th round of FTA talks

India and the European Union (EU) will begin the 11th round of negotiation s on the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) from today, aiming to conclude the first phase of the pact as early as possible, a government official told news agency PTI.

The discussions, scheduled to continue until May 16 in New Delhi, mark the next step toward a phased conclusion of the trade deal. Both sides have agreed to finalise the agreement in two stages, considering uncertainties in the global trade environment, particularly those stemming from tariff measures initiated during US President Donald Trump’s tenure.

“The EU team will be here for the 11th round of negotiations. It will continue till May 16,” an official said.

Cannes Film Festival to commence

The 78th Cannes Film Festival will begin from today at the Grand Theatre Lumiere in Cannes, France. This marks the beginning of a 12-day celebration of global cinema.

This year the jury for the festival is being chaired by the French actress Juliette Binoche. The members consist of Halle Berry, Alba Rohrwacher, Leila Slimani, Jeremy Strong, Carlos Reygadas, Dieudo Hamadi, Hong Sangsoo, and Payal Kapadia, reported news website Times of India.

Meanwhile, legendary actor Robert De Niro will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement award , aka ‘Honorary Palme d’Or,’ for his contribution to cinema.

Kim Kardashian will testify in Paris Jewel robbery case

American actress Kim Kardashian will appear before a court in Paris today to testify against an armed robbery of her jewellery in 2016 .

“She is committed to attending in person the trial and to confronting those who attacked her. She will do so with dignity and courage,” her French lawyers Leonor Hennerick and Jonathan Mattout told AFP.

On the night of October 2-3, 2016, Kardashian was robbed while staying at an exclusive hotel in central Paris. She was threatened with a gun to the head and tied up with her mouth taped up.

Delhi Assembly Budget session to take place

The second part of the Delhi Assembly’s Budget Session will commence today.  During the session, the government is likely to table and pass the Delhi School Education Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees Bill, 2025, to regulate private school fees, reported PTI.

The Cabinet had approved the draft Bill on April 29 with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta saying that a special Assembly session would be convened to pass it.

The Bill recommends steep penalties and cancellation of the registration of schools found increasing fees illegally or harassing students over the issue.
