Trump to address Davos 2026

The US President will take the stage today at the World Economic Forum (WEF) to deliver a keynote address before hosting a high-level reception. According to the schedule, Trump’s speech is set to take place from 2:30 pm to 3:15 pm Central European Time. This is Trump’s second stint on the Davos stage as President of the United States.

The Republican leader will deliver his speech from the Congress Centre in Davos, which is also the main venue for the annual meeting.

The invitees include seven of India’s most powerful business figures. The Indian executives attending the reception are: Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons; Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Enterprises; Srini Pallia, CEO of Wipro; Salil S Parekh, CEO of Infosys; Sanjiv Bajaj, Chairman and Managing Director of Bajaj Finserv; Anish Shah, Group Chief Executive of the Mahindra Group; and Hari S. Bhartia, Founder and Co-Chairman of the Jubilant Bhartia Group.

Japan court verdict on the assassin of Abe

Japanese prosecutors have sought a life sentence for the assassin of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The ruling will be announced today. At the Nara District Court, Abe’s assassin, Tetsuya Yamagami, is standing trial for murder and other charges.

Yamagami, 45, who shot Abe at close range while he was delivering an election campaign speech, has previously admitted to the assassination.

He said he held a grudge against the controversial Unification Church because his family suffered a financial setback due to his mother’s massive donations to the religious group.

Fashion icon Valentino to lie in state in Rome

Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani, known as Valentino, passed away at the age of 93 on Monday (January 19). In an Instagram statement, the Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Foundation said: “He passed away peacefully in his Roman home, surrounded by the love of his family.”

The foundation also said Valentino will lie in state in Rome’s Piazza Mignanelli between January 21 and 22. The funeral service will be held the following day at the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels and Martyrs, according to the foundation.

US Supreme Court to hear Trump’s bid to fire Fed Governor

The US Supreme Court will hear arguments on Trump’s bid to fire Fed Governor Lisa Cook. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell will attend the oral arguments today (January 20), NBC News reported, citing a person familiar with Powell’s plans.

Initially, the Supreme Court allowed Cook to remain in office while it prepared to hear the argument in January. In August, Trump asserted that he was removing Cook from her position, citing Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte’s accusations of mortgage fraud; however, Cook has vehemently denied the allegations.

Cook’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, said, “Trump has no authority to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook,” as quoted by NBC News.
