The announcement came from White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt in a statement on Wednesday (October 8) that Trump would be at Walter Reed Medical Center for a planned meeting with service members. “While there, President Trump will stop by for his routine yearly check up,” she said, according to Reuters.

Leavitt further said that the president may then travel to West Asia, where Israeli, Hamas, and American negotiators have finalised a Gaza hostage-for-ceasefire deal, reported news website The Indian Express.

80th anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea

North Korea will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea today. Among the foreign dignitaries attending the celebrations are Chinese Premier Li Qiang, a delegation from Russia’s ruling party led by Dmitry Medvedev, and Vietnam’s Communist Party chief To Lam.

People familiar with the planning anticipate that cooperation agreements will be signed. Earlier, Lam and his delegation attended a welcome ceremony at a Pyongyang sports centre.

Malaysia to table 2026 budget

Malaysia is set to table its 2026 national budget on October 10. Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz is expected to present the budget in Parliament, focusing on economic resilience, cost of living relief, and sustainable growth.

The 2026 Budget is anticipated to strike a balance between fiscal consolidation and social support, as Malaysia continues to navigate post-pandemic recovery, global inflation pressures, and fluctuating commodity prices. Analysts predict increased allocations for healthcare, education, green energy projects, and digital infrastructure, along with targeted subsidies to ease the burden on lower- and middle-income groups.

Public expectations are high as the government faces challenges in reducing the fiscal deficit, projected near 4.5 per cent of GDP, while maintaining strong social spending.

Supreme Court to hear green crackers issue

The Supreme Court will hear issues related to the manufacturing and sale of ‘green crackers’ in Delhi and the national capital region on October 10.

The top court on September 26 permitted certified manufacturers to produce ‘green’ crackers with the condition that they will not sell them in the prohibited Delhi-NCR without its approval.

It asked the Centre to take a fresh look at the absolute ban on the manufacture of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR.
