Delhi Assembly Elections
The National Capital will vote on Wednesday to choose its next chief minister.
The voting is being held from 7 am to 6 pm on Wednesday and a public holiday has been declared in Delhi and Haryana.
The results will be declared on February 8.
PM Modi to visit Maha Kumbh
As Delhi goes to polls, PM Narendra Modi will take a holy dip at Maha Kumbh’s Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh today.
He will arrive at 10 am and proceed to Maha Kumbh by around 11-11.30 am.
During the visit, he is expected to interact with saints and review the arrangements for the millions of pilgrims attending the holy gathering.
His visit comes days after a stampede killed at least 30 devotees and injured nearly 60 others during the ‘amrit snan’ on Mauni Amavasya.
Sam Altman in India
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is scheduled to visit India as his company seeks to align with New Delhi’s growing AI initiatives.
He will meet PM Modi, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to discuss potential applications of OpenAI’s technologies in India.
The visit as the Centre announced IndiaAI Mission, which has received an allocation of Rs 10,371 crore over five years.
Thai PM in China
Thailand Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will be visiting China for three days.
Her visit comes at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
Online financial scams, tourism and pollution will be among the issues discussed, Paetongtarn told reporters earlier.
RBI’s 3-day Monetary Policy meet
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will start its three-day meeting.
The RBI conducts six bi-monthly meetings each financial year to discuss interest rates, money supply, inflation outlook and other macroeconomic indicators and the February meeting will be the last of this fiscal.
The decision on interest rates will be announced by the newly-appointed Governor Sanjay Malhotra on February 7.
Milkipur Assembly bypoll
The bypoll for the high-pitched Milkipur assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya are scheduled to take place today.
The results will be announced on February 8.
The contest here is primarily between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with both parties fielding senior leaders for campaigning.
Steven Nelson is to be executed
Convicted murderer Steven Nelson is scheduled to be executed on Wednesday using a lethal injection.
He was convicted in 2012 and was sentenced to death for the 2011 murder of Clint Dobson at NorthPointe Baptist Church in Arlington.
After suffocating the young pastor to death, he also severely beat the church’s secretary before fleeing in her car.
