US President Donald Trump is once again raising eyebrows. Trump is caught between a rock and a hard place again, as he was seen responding inappropriately to a heckler during a visit to an auto plant in Michigan.
According to a 30-second video of the incident, a man who was later identified as TJ Sabula was heard screaming at the US president while the latter was touring the Ford F-150 factory in Detroit, Michigan.
Did Trump swear at a heckler?
A video shows the US president pointing to the factory floor a few times as he continues to walk through part of the factory. A second video then shows a more zoomed-in shot of the same interaction. Sabula was heard screaming ‘Paedophile protector’ in this video at Trump while the latter stood in one place.
The video then apparently shows the 79-year-old president allegedly mouthing ‘F**k off’ twice and showing him the middle finger. While the president continued to wave at the crowd, this exchange caught everyone’s attention and went viral quickly.
“We had a great event today and we’re proud of how our employees represented Ford,” Ford’s Executive Director of Corporate Communications David Tovar told CNN. “We’ve seen the clip you’re referring to. One of our core values is respect, and we don’t condone anyone saying anything inappropriate like that within our facilities. When that happens, we have a process to deal with it, but we don’t get into specific personnel matters,” he further said.
Who is the man who heckled Trump?
Authorities have identified the heckler as TJ Sabula, a 40-year-old United Auto Workers Local 600 line worker, according to the Washington Post. As per the report, Sabula had been suspended from work following an investigation.
Sabula said he stands by his decision to call out Trump and has no regrets, even as he acknowledged concerns about how the incident might affect his future at work. Speaking to the Washington Post, he stated that he identifies as politically independent, and though he’s never voted for Trump, he has supported other Republicans.
“I don’t feel as though fate looks upon you often, and when it does, you better be ready to seize the opportunity. And today I think I did that,” Sabula said, referring to his heated exchange.
The man was cheered by many on social media for his bold stance against the president. “This guy is a hero!” one person on X remarked. Another user said, “He said he has ’no regrets.’ He deserves a medal for his patriotism.”
Sabula attacked the president in connection with the administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Trump has also been criticised for his past association with the disgraced financier.
What does the White House say?
The White House has defended the president’s action, calling it an ‘appropriate’ response to someone screaming at the commander-in-chief. He further said that the heckler deserved what he got.
“A lunatic was wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage, and the President gave an appropriate and unambiguous response,” White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said in a statement.
Has Trump sworn on earlier occasions?
This is not the first time that Trump has swore and flipped the bird at a public gathering. Earlier in 2024, he used derogatory terms to describe political opponents, such as calling Kamala Harris a ‘sh*t vice president’ at 2024 rallies and a Catholic charity dinner.
During his 2024 campaign, Trump used words like ‘bullsh*t’ to describe his legal indictments. Meanwhile, during a debate in 2017, he referred to Hillary Clinton as a “nasty woman,” which caught everyone’s attention.
Trump also dropped the ‘f-bomb’ last June while expressing frustration that Israel and Iran appeared to be violating the ceasefire that he just celebrated going into effect.
“We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f**k they’re doing,” Trump was quoted as telling reporters as he left the White House.
