A chilling murder has come to light in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district, where a woman killed her husband by feeding him biryani laced with sleeping pills.

What is more shocking is that the accused, identified as Lakshmi Madhuri, spent the whole night watching pornographic videos beside her husband’s body.

The police said that she tried to conceal the murder as a heart attack. Lakshmi and her lover suffocated her husband with a pillow to kill him.

Here is how the murder unfolded.

How was the murder committed?

On January 18, the accused Lakshmi Madhuri cooked biryani for her husband, Lokam Shiva Nagaraju and allegedly laced it with 30 sleeping pills. Once he fell into a deep sleep, the next phase of the plan was set in motion.

Madhuri’s alleged lover, Gopi, arrived at the residence around 11:30 pm. According to Duggirala police, Gopi restrained Nagaraju by sitting on his chest, while Madhuri suffocated her husband using a pillow. This led to Nagaraju’s death on the spot.

After making sure he was no longer alive, Gopi is said to have left the house, leaving Madhuri behind with the body. Investigators reveal she then stayed inside through the night without calling for help or informing neighbours, reported News18.

Madhuri allegedly tried to hide the murder by claiming her husband had suffered a heart attack. She later alerted neighbours in the early morning hours, describing his death as sudden.

However, her explanation failed to convince those around her. Neighbours and acquaintances, aware of the couple’s frequent quarrels and Madhuri’s alleged extramarital relationship, began to grow suspicious.

Concerns were raised when Nagaraju’s father and friends saw injuries and bloodstains on the body. They approached the police, triggering an inquiry that later revealed through post-mortem findings that the death was caused by suffocation and chest injuries, not natural causes.

During interrogation, Madhuri confessed to the crime and admitted to spending the night watching pornographic videos after killing her husband. The police have booked a case of murder and took the woman into custody for questioning. According to the news website Deccan Chronicle, the police said, “We are on the lookout for her paramour to take him into custody for questioning.”

What led to the murder?

According to the police, the woman used to work at a ticket counter in a film theatre in Vijayawada. This is where she developed a friendship with Kondaveeti Gopi, leading to an illicit relationship.

The husband had been working in the onion business, but she allegedly forced him to give it up, describing it as an embarrassment to the family. She then arranged for him to work in Hyderabad at a car travel company owned by Gopi, which provided security for women employees travelling at night.

A few months later, Nagaraju was made aware of his wife’s illicit relationship with Gopi, leading to problems within the family. Then, about two months ago, he quit his job in Hyderabad and returned to his village to stay there. Police allege the wife, annoyed by his presence at home, plotted his murder with the help of her paramour.

Ruby, a resident of Mohalla Chunni in Chandousi area, filed a missing person complaint of her husband Rahul, stating that her husband had not returned home on November 18.

A month later, the police recovered a severely decomposed torso inside a black bag from a drain near their home. The body was missing its head, arms, and legs, becoming a challenge for investigators. To identify the body, it was taken into custody.

On investigation, Ruby’s story did not match her earlier claims, and police began suspecting her. Later, the police arrested her along with her lover, Gaurav, for the Murder of her husband.

In yet another crime of the same kind, a Merchant Navy officer was killed by his wife in Uttar Pradesh. The woman, Muskan Rastogi, had been allegedly plotting to kill her husband, Saurabh Rajput, along with her lover Sahil Shukla. Rastogi later admitted to her parents that she had killed Rajput under heavy intoxication. The two were later arrested.

Will Shehbaz Sharif be forced to withdraw Pakistan from Trump’s Board of Peace?

Pakistan joins Donald Trump’s newly unveiled Board of Peace, aiming to promote global stability and oversee Gaza’s reconstruction, despite a $1 billion membership fee and Trump’s continued chairmanship. The move has sparked strong domestic backlash, with opposition leaders and activists criticizing the lack of transparency and warning it could undermine Pakistan’s moral standing and foreign policy coherence. Critics argue the Board’s broad mandate may sideline the United Nations and Palestinian self-determination, while Pakistan’s government defends the decision as a step toward humanitarian aid and ceasefire in Gaza.
