It’s Day 2 of the Operation Sindoor debate in Parliament’s Lok Sabha and the first to take on the opposition in the lower house is Home Minister Amit Shah.
His remarks in Parliament come a day after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar presented the government’s side on Operation Sindoor, India’s military action following the terror attack in Pahalgam.
While the defence minister in his speech said that Pakistan had “admitted defeat” and offered to cease hostilities, the foreign minister asserted that the military strikes marked a new normal in the country’s fight against cross-border terrorism, and rejected claims of any third-party mediation in cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan and also added that at no stage, in any conversation with the United States, was there “any linkage with trade and what was going on”.
The home minister began his remarks with the mention of Operation Mahadev, the joint effort by the Indian Army, the J-K Police and the CRPF which resulted in the death of three terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also slammed the Congress and its members for its remarks on Operation Sindoor as well as raised questions over the Gandhi family’s ties to China.
‘3 terrorists killed in Op Mahadev involved in Pahalgam attack’
Home Minister Amit Shah told the MPs on Tuesday (July 29) that the three terrorists that were killed in Monday’s Operation Mahadev in Jammu and Kashmir were linked to the April Pahalgam terror attack.
As per Shah, Operation Mahadev began on the same day as the Pahalgam attack. The three ‘A-grade’ terrorists were identified as — Suleman alias Hashim Musa, Jibran and Hamza Afghani.
“These terrorists were involved in the attack on pilgrims and security personnel. Under Operation Mahadev, our forces acted swiftly and neutralised them,” the home minister added.

“All three terrorists - Suleman, Afghan and Jibran were killed in yesterday’s operation. The people who used to supply food to them were detained earlier. Once the bodies of these terrorists were brought to Srinagar, they were identified by those who were kept detained by our agencies,” said Amit Shah.
Shah also stated that the three terrorists killed in Operation Mahadev were from Pakistan, attacking Congress’ P Chidambaram for alleging that the Pahalgam terrorists were not Pakistani.
Shah said that all three terrorists were registered voters in Pakistan, and the equipment found at their camp was also sourced from Pakistan.
‘We have voter ID of 2 terrorists’
As part of his remarks on the Operation Sindoor debate, Home Minister Amit Shah explained how they identified the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack and linked that to those killed in Operation Mahadev on Monday.
He said that the government has proof and is sure that the three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack were from Pakistan. “We have voter ID of two of the terrorists. We have the rifles used in the attack,” he said.
His remarks were a direct response to P Chidambaram who had suggested on Monday that the Pahalgam attackers could have been “homegrown” and questioned the evidence of Pakistani links.
Shah in a point-by-point rebuttal stated that they had acquired the voter ids of two of the men, which was Pakistani origin. Moreover, the chocolates recovered from their possession after Operation Mahadev were also manufactured in Pakistan.
Shah further revealed that analysis of ballistics from the Pahalgam attack and Operation Mahadev revealed that the guns used were the same, indicating that those who were killed on Monday were linked to the April attack.
“Ballistic analysis of the rifles and cartridge cases conclusively established that these were the same weapons used in the attack on our civilians,” Shah told the House. The home minister also revealed that cartridge casings recovered from the Pahalgam site had undergone forensic testing in advance. When the terrorists were killed in the Dachigam operation, the recovered rifles — M4 American rifles — were matched with those shell casings, confirming their use in the Pahalgam massacre.
‘No Pakistani civilians killed in Operation Sindoor’
Moving away from Monday’s Operation Mahadev, Amit Shah then focused on India’s success in Operation Sindoor. He stated that in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, the Modi government gave the Armed Forces complete freedom to execute Operation Sindoor.
“On April 30, there was a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), in which the security forces were given complete operational freedom. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 and carried out between 1:04 am and 1:24 am. In this operation, nine terror sites in Pakistan were destroyed. No Pakistani civilians were killed in this attack.”

He further added that India attacked targets not only in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir but also targets which were 100 kilometres inside Pakistan.
Amit Shah’s statement on civilian casualties is of great significance. This is because Pakistan has on repeated occasions claimed that New Delhi had claimed the lives of over 40 civilians during Operation Sindoor.
‘Unlike Manmohan era, we didn’t stay silent’
Home Minister Amit Shah also used the Operation Sindoor debate in Lok Sabha as an opportunity to slam the Congress and its past governments. “Following Operation Sindoor, our DGMO informed the Pak DGMO that India has attacked terror infrastructure on their land as per our right of self-defence. It cannot be like how it happened during Manmohan Singh’s government, that terrorists come and kill us and we sit quietly. We killed terrorists who bled India under the Congress government,” he said in Lok Sabha.
He also slammed the Congress, saying its past governments had weakened the country’s security and also went after India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. “Yesterday, they (Congress) raised questions about why there was no war.
Today, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) exists only because of Jawaharlal Nehru… In 1960, they gave 80 per cent of the Indus waters to Pakistan. In 1971, during the Simla Agreement, they (Congress) forgot about PoK. If they had taken PoK then, we would not have to carry out attacks on camps there now.”
‘Love for China has passed down 3 generations of Gandhis’
The home minister in his speech also slammed the Gandhi family, dating all the way back to Nehru, saying it was their love for China that has hurt India.

“Today, China is in UN Security Council, and India is not. Modi ji is trying his best to get India to become a part of the UN Security Council. Jawaharlal Nehru’s stand is responsible for this… When our jawans were facing Chinese soldiers in Doklam, Rahul Gandhi was holding a meeting with the Chinese ambassador. This love for China has passed down three generations from Jawaharlal Nehru, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi,” said Amit Shah in his remarks during the Operation Sindoor debate.
