Singer Yo Yo Honey Singh has often been called out for his vulgar lyrics and controversial lyrics. The man has finally broken silence on the same in an interview with Times Of India. He criticised legendary writer-lyricist Gulzar and said, “Gulzar sahab likh rahe hain (Gulzar sir wrote), ‘Beedi jalaile jigar se piya, jigar mein badi aag hai (Beedi song lyrics)’, jigar kahan hota hai aurat ka (where is the chest)? This is misogynistic for me.”
“Why am I wrong only? I didn’t say before, I’m saying now. I never replied so people said he is an easy target, lets talk about him,” he added.
Singh continued, “What songs were there but they were considered as songs. I don’t talk about controversial songs such as Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai… but why is Honey Singh abused and they are called legend? We are getting modernised but thinking backward.”
A user slammed the singer by tweeting- “honey Singh has done so many unhinged things but this is at par , Bro you sang Vol 1 and main hoon balatkari , vol 1 lyrics literally translates to I’ll fuck you then beat you up w shoes and you’re here questioning Gulzar’s words.”
After standing tall on the music charts and being on a massive career high, Yo Yo Honey Singh left everyone in shock after he decided to quit the industry post suffering from alcoholism and depression. After remaining on a break, he did bounce back and proved all of his detractors wrong.
He has a documentary on Netflix and in an interview with The Lallantop, the singer said, “Few big names, few very big names, very influential names. And they teased me, ‘Arey, Sardar bada tu Punjabi hai, daaru pee leta hai, yeh karke dikha.’ Main kaha, ‘Kya hai ismei, do karta hu.’ Kuch hua hi nahi. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, phir uski addiction lag gayi. [They said, ‘Sardar, you are a Punjabi and drink alcohol, now do this. I said, ‘What’s the problem, give and I will do’. Nothing happened. Gradually I got addicted.”
