Courtroom dramas can be the most compelling to watch if done correctly. What matters in this case is superlative performances, sharp writing, and characters that you can empathize with. Hindi cinema has made a lot of iconic courtroom dramas but we don’t have too many of them that have been headlined by actresses. Today we are going to talk about very those examples. There have been a lot of powerful female performances in this genre. It is time to revisit them.

Yami Gautam: Haq

Produced by Junglee Pictures, the film is inspired by real event footage where Yami Gautam plays Shazia Bano, a woman who takes her fight for justice from her broken home to the courtroom, sparking a national debate. Standing against her husband, she questions the balance between faith, law, and equality. With just its teaser, Haq has already signaled it will not soften its edges this is a role that could mark a turning point in Yami’s career, placing Haq among the most powerful stories of our time.

Taapsee Pannu: Mulk and Pink

In both the cases, the actress stood tall against a crippled system. In Pink, it was about her honour. In Mulk, it was battle to defend her religion. These are two of the best film films in the last decade that Hindi cinema has produced. And they also happen to be two of our best performances.

Rani Mukerji: Veer-Zaara

This was more than just a love story. It was a film where an Air Force pilot sacrificed his life to protect the lady he passionately loved. A cross border romance that has been able to stand the test of time. And Rani Mukerji shone as a lawyer who’s vulnerable in the beginning, but breathes fire later.

Special Mention:

**Miss Chatterjee Vs Norway:**

The film was about Debika Chatterjee, an Indian woman living in Norway with her family, fights to regain custody of her children after Norwegian authorities take them away from her. And the actress won her first National award for her performance.
