The highly awaited and one of the most important and credible award shows, Oscars or Academy Awards, are over. The excitement leading up to D-day was palpable and movie buffs were desperately waiting for the awards to be announced and the red carpet to be rolled. The ceremony was indeed a magnetic, surreal event- with who’s who from the Hollywood attending the award show.
Christopher Nolan’s _Oppenheimer_ was leading the race for the most nominations and fans, especially, desperately wanted the Oppenheimer team to sweep. Luckily, they did and Cillian Murphy won the Oscar for Best Actor, Robert Downey Jr for Best Supporting Actor and Christopher Nolan for Best Director. This recognition was due and well-deserved.
However, amid all the uproar Oscar awards have caused on social media, Bollywood actress Yami Gautam had a very stark reaction to Cillian Murphy winning the esteemed trophy. She expressed her happiness over the Irish actor’s first Oscar win but did so while taking a dig at the Bollywood awards. Calling the ‘current filmy awards’ fake, the actress revealed that she stopped attending these events.
Yami congratulates Cillian Murphy
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Yami wrote, “Having no belief in any of the current fake ‘filmy’ awards, since the last few years, I stopped attending them but today I am feeling really happy for an extraordinary actor who stands for patience, resilience & so many more emotions.”
She added, “Watching him being honoured on the biggest global platform tells us that in the end, it’s your talent that stands the tallest above anything. Congratulations #CillianMurphy! #Oscar2024.”

Watching him being honoured on the biggest…
At the Dolby Theatres, Cillian, while accepting the award, dedicated his award to the peacemakers. “For better or worse, we’re all living in Oppenheimer’s world," said Murphy in his acceptance speech. “I’d like to dedicate this to the peacemakers.”
Awards for the documentary winner, 20 Days in Mariupol, and best international film, The Zone of Interest, brought geopolitics into the Oscar spotlight.
