Wonder Woman: After Lebanon, Tunisia, Qatar bans film over Gal Gadot's Israeli background

File Image[/caption] After a series of issues that have already caused a furor all across the world, the latest dispute that the movie has been inflicted with is the ban in Qatar , following hot on the heels of the movie’s ban in Lebanon and Tunisia. All this is hinged on the fact that Gal Gadot, the lead actress of the movie, is Israeli. Movie theaters in Qatar were advertising Wonder Woman until 29 June, however the movie disappeared from the theater websites in the area after that, according to a report by Doha News . Then, Vox Cinemas and Novo Cinemas both confirmed that Wonder Woman was no longer airing in Qatar, according to Comicbook.com.   Most of this backlash stems from the fact that Gadot publicly supports the Israeli Army, an army that she was a part of at one point. This reaction hasn’t hurt Wonder Woman overall though, as the film has already brought in over $663 million worldwide and counting. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is a groundbreaking film in several respects — it is the  first superhero film  in more than a decade to have a female protagonist, and it is a $150 million project directed by a woman. Not just that, it broke several  box office records  by garnering $100.5 million on its opening weekend in America. In other news, director Patty Jenkins is all set to return for the sequel of Wonder Woman (another stand alone movie) after much speculation on whether she would be retained for the second venture even after breaking the record of the highest earning film directed by a woman. The movie’s global box office collections still seem to be steadily climbing as the weeks pass.
