Salman Khan had flown to the U.S.A back in 2011 for the treatment of his rare disease called Trigeminal Neuralgia. This was post the release of his film Bodyguard. The actor has spoken about it multiple times and addressed it again on Kajol and Twinkle Khanna’s show Two Much.
The _Dabangg_ actor revealed, “You’ve got to live with it. There are a lot of people living with bypass surgeries, heart conditions, and many more. When I had trigeminal neuralgia, that pain used to be… You would not want your biggest enemy to have that pain.”
He added, “I had it for seven-and-a-half years. It used to pain every 4-5 minutes. It would happen suddenly, while talking… It used to take me about an hour and a half to have my breakfast, and I used to go straight to dinner. For an omelet, because, I couldn’t chew it, I had to force myself, hurt myself, take as much pain, so I could get rid of the meal.”
How he felt the pain the first time
I was doing Partner. Lara was there. She removed a strand of hair on my face and I felt pain. I joked that ‘Wow Lara, you’re electrifying!’ That’s when it started.
What is the Trigeminal Neuralgia disease?
Trigeminal neuralgia (TN), also known as tic douloureux, is a type of chronic pain disorder that involves sudden attacks of severe facial pain. It affects the trigeminal nerve, or the fifth cranial nerve, which provides feeling and nerve signaling to parts of the head and face.
How it can be cured
During the procedure the surgeon will remove a small section of skull bone in order to relieve pressure on the nerve. Many people find this surgery is effective at easing or completely stopping the pain of trigeminal neuralgia. Currently , MVD is the closest possible cure for trigeminal neuralgia.
