Aamir Khan’s Dangal costar Suhani Bhatnagar, who played the role of young Babita, passed away on February 17, 2024. The actress’ parents shared their daughter who passed away the age of 19 was suffering from a rare disease called dermatomyositis, an autoimmune disease, which led to her demise.
A statement by the late actress’ father read- “The rare autoimmune disorder could only be treated with steroids, unfortunately, the steroids weakened her immune system because of which she contracted an infection in the hospital.”
Aamir Khan Productions wrote- “We are deeply saddened to hear about our Suhani passing away. Our heartfelt condolences to her mother Poojaji, and the entire family. Such a talented young girl, such a team player, Dangal would have been incomplete without Suhani. Suhani, you will always remain a star in our hearts.”
She began to experience swelling in her hands leading to the diagnosis of dermatomyositis.
What is the disease?
Dermatomyositis usually occurs in adults from the late 40s to early 60s, but can also occur in children. Females are most affected.
Symptoms
Symptoms include a dusky-red rash on the face and eyelids and in areas around the nails, knuckles, elbows, knees, chest and back. Muscle weakness is frequent.
Treatment
Treatment includes medication or other therapies. In rare cases, surgery may be used to remove calcium deposits.
