The row between India and Maldives continues to spiral after three Maldivian ministers made derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India following his social media post from Lakshadweep. PM Modi, through his social media handle, urged Indians to choose Lakshadweep as an alternative to the Maldives. Amid the ongoing tensions, while celebrities have been expressing their support for Lakshadweep and urging Indians to explore its hidden beauty, actor-comedian Vir Das has also reacted to the backlash. Vir had a witty take on Indian celebrities and influencers who have pictures from their vacations in the island nation. Taking to her X handle, Vir Das on Monday joked about how Indian influencers and celebrities have some of their best vacation pictures and are now ’terrified’ to post any of them. “Firstly, happy Lakshadweep is getting some love! Secondly, Somewhere in the Maldives, right now, is an Indian celebrity/influencer, who didn’t eat carbs for two weeks, took the best vacation photos ever, and is TERRIFIED to post them,” he wrote.

His tweet caught the attention of many and social media users clearly had a field day as people shared divided reactions to the tweet. While some pointed out about celebrities recently visiting Maldives, a few also mentioned that some have started deleting their past posts. A user wrote, “They should not be terrified… just post it and tag the location as Lakshwadeep. Simple!”, while another one wrote, “Hahhahahhahahahha. 90% people outraging won’t go to lakshwadeep or Maldives.” “One (Indian influencer/celeb) already put pics last week and now lecturing others to stay away,” another one commented. This wasn’t it. The Emmy winner also shared a few other tweets, sharing hilarious remarks like- “Next actor to post a honeymoon photo from Madh Island is getting a National Award. Pakka” and “Remember thinking Epstein would be the most discussed island this week?” Indian celebrities promoting Lakshadweep Following the row over the Maldivian ministers’ comments, many Indian celebrities, including Ranveer Singh, John Abraham, Shraddha Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Urvashi Rautela among others, have joined the bandwagon to promote Indian tourism, urging their fans to visit the beautiful Indian island. Amitabh Bachchan also reshared former cricketer Virender Sehwag’s post and praised the islands. “I have been to Lakshadweep and Andamans and they are such astonishingly beautiful locations .. stunning waters beaches and the underwater experience is simply unbelievable…” he wrote.
