Depicting the true life of IPS Manoj Kumar Sharma, Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail was a true story of hope and honesty. The last scene where his girlfriend goes to see the final list and says that he has actually cleared it was the actual scene-stealer. There is so much emotion in that scene. Vikrant Massey ’s eyes did all the talking and the way he fell down on the floor showed the character’s emotions and how many sleepless nights he has had to make this dream come true. It was a moment not only of the film, but to millions of people who are struggling hard to become a civil servant. For the audience too 12th Fail was a movie of hope. It’s a true story of an underdog, IPS officer Manoj Sharma which gives hope to millions of viewers. A boy coming from an extremely humble background, who studied in a village and makes it to becoming an IPS officer. His struggles are lessons that many of us coming from a comparatively privileged can learn from. True to its purpose, 12th Fail shows how from being a dog walker, a toilet cleaner to sleeping on the streets, Manoj Kumar Sharma, the real IPS officer has done it all to achieve his dream. The movie teaches one how to be persevering and that there is no substitute for hard work. The UPSC exam is like a game of snake and ladder. Once you go up by clearing the preliminary exam and you are unable to clear mains, you will have to again clear the prelims. And if you clear the prelims, the mains and fail in the interview. You will have to again go back to square one and clear prelims and mains again. It’s a huge gamble and years of loss. The movie shows that if you really have the fire in your belly to be an IPS officer, you will have to keep doing it until you make it one day. Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail is about the middle child of a family of farmers from Chambal (a region known for its bandits, according to the voiceover narration). The movie teaches that you will have to keep your dreams alive and have faith in those who have faith in you.
