Actor Vikrant Massey is presently basking in the success of his latest release, 12th Fail. Based on IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s award-winning film took Massey to new levels of success, also earning massive praise from fans and celebrities alike. While the film shows Vikrant easily getting into the skin of Manoj Sharma, it wasn’t very easy for him in real life. The actor recently opened up on how it was very challenging for him to play the role of Manoj Kumar.
In a conversation with GQ India, Vikrant revealed that he spent almost a year and a half preparing for the film while also attending extensive workshops for around three months. Besides that, he also opened up about losing a lot of weight and even getting his skin tanned, as a result of which his skin got burnt. “I had to lose weight and tan my skin. While tanning my skin, it got burnt and I freaked out and thought we’d have to push shoot. But then I told Vinod, and he said it’s a boon and we wouldn’t need makeup. We’d be going in raw,” the actor shared.
‘The toughest part was the emotional heft’
Besides the burnt skin, Vikrant also spoke about the toughest part for him, sharing that it was portraying the emotional heft of playing the role.
“The toughest part of this journey for me, however, was the emotional weight of playing this character. Someone who represents the dreams of millions of Indians. To tell a real India story that would resonate with the masses,” he said further adding that even the real-life Manoj Kumar Sharma felt like not being able to fulfil his dream, and his entire outlook became bleak.
For the unversed, 12th Fail received a lot of praise across the country. Bollywood celebs like Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Abhishek Bachchan, and many others hailed the film for its story and performances. It also got Vikrant his first Filmfare Best Actor Award (Critics) this year.
