Vettaiyan has been making noise from its announcement to its buzz closer to its release. Apart from bringing the two iconic cinema legends Amitabh Bachchan & Rajinikanth, filmmaker TJ Gnanavel of Jai Bhim fame has managed to accommodate a brilliant ensemble in the form of Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh among others.
While the trailer has garnered tremendous response from fans, does it live up to the sky-high expectations of the audience? Let’s find out…
‘Justice dealyed is justice denied & justice hurried is justice burried’. Amitabh Bachchan’s impactful dialogue sums up this Rajinikanth’s action-thriller which touches upon the social message of exploitation of education among under-privileged population.
Talking about the plot, Satyadev (Amitabh Bachchan) talks about the human rights to a panel of police officers and suggesting that encounter is not the solution to get justice.
In the next frame, we see the mass entry of SP Athiyan (Rajinikanth), who is one of the best known encounter specialists and often have conflict with Satyadev.
Saranya (Dushara Vijayan), a school teacher from public school, discovers that drugs are getting smuggled and are kept in the classroom of the school.
She writes the letter to SP Athiyan, who takes immediate action by arresting the culprits and killing their head with a planned encounter. Saranya now gets transferred to Tamil Nadu for higher studies.
Soon, in a tragic incident, she is brutally murdered and raped and next day her body is discovered by police next day.
All the teachers from go on protest and refuse to conduct exams until the murderer and rapist gets punished.
The case goes to the SP Harish’s (Kishore) team and he along with ASP Roopa (Ritika Singh) investigate the case and finds out Gunaa to be the suspect and arrest him. However, he escapes from their clutches.
Now, DGP Srinivasan (Rao Ramesh) gives the case to Athiyan and conveys the he is under a lot of pressure and wants this case to be solved in a week.
Based on the evidences gathered by Harish’s team, Athiyan finds out Gunaa within 48 hours and executes him. However, to everyone’s surprise Satyadev analyses and tells Athiyan that Gunaa was innocent and he killed him in a fake encounter.
Shocked and saddened Athiyan is now on a hunt to find the real culprit and prove to the world that Gunaa was innocent. How will he do that? Well, you have to watch Vettaiyan on the big screen for that?
After Jai Bhim, director Gnanavel churns out an impressive massy actioner, with a gripping narrative and relevant storyline. While the camera work and BGM are great, the editing of the film could have been crisper.
Talking about the performances, it’s Rajinikanth show and no one can beat his swag, charm and onscreen charisma. Amitabh Bachchan delivers an intense act with his powerful and magnetic persona. Fahadh Faasil is a delight to watch as once again he wins the heart with his loveable performance. Ritika Singh & Manju Warrier have played their parts to the T. While Rana Daggubati is menacing as Natraj, I wish he would have more screen time.
On the whole, Vettaiyan is massy treat for Thalaivar fans with supreme performances by the impeccable ensemble.
