MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2018’s opening film Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota will finally get a big screen release, after getting standing ovation in Mumbai’s film festival and a grand success in Toronto International Film Festival. The film starring Abhimanyu Dasani, Radhika Madan, Gulshan Devaiah, Mahesh Manjrekar and Jimit Trivedi will release on 21 March. The film’s director Vasan Bala shared the news on Twitter by saying, ‘After 14 years of trying to make movies…. finally a release!! #MKDNH’.

Director Vasan Bala last film Peddlers (2012) also fought for a theatrical release after making the rounds of film festivals but ultimately found no takers. A mainstream release for Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota is only good news for Bala. Ronnie Screwvala’s banner RSVP are the producers of Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota. The film’s unique story follows a young man who has a rare condition called congenital insensitivity to pain and he goes on a rampage against all his foes. This movie marks the debut of actress Bhagyashree’s son Abhimanyu Dassani, who trained in martial arts for three months before the audition of the film. Vasan Bala earlier said that Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota is a homage to films he had grown up watching: the likes of Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and other action films. RSVP has already kick-started the year with a blockbuster film, Vicky Kaushal’s Uri, which is still running to packed theatres in many cities.
