Yami Gautam will be seen as an intelligence officer in the upcoming military drama, Uri: The Surgical Strike . In the first look released on 4 December, the actress looks fierce in her grey pantsuit and blue shirt paired with a short hairdo. This is the first time Gautam will be seen in a character belonging to the armed forces.

Uri has Vicky Kaushal in the lead. He will play the commander-in-chief who led a group of paratroopers in the surgical strikes following terror attacks on the Indian Army camp in Uri in Kashmir.

It was previously reported that Gautam’s character will help the army in the  planning and execution of the operation. “This is the first time I will be playing a character who is so strong and will present me in a very different light,” she had told Mumbai Mirror in April.

The film, based on the 2016 Uri militant attacks also stars Paresh Rawal, Kirti Kulhari and Mohit Raina in pivotal roles. Directed by debutant Aditya Dhar and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, it is scheduled to hit the theatres on 11 January, 2019.

Gautam was last seen alongside Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in Batti Gul Meter Chalu .
