Tumbbad box office: Sohum Shah starrer becomes the highest-grossing re-release in India since 2000, surpassing Thalapathy Vijay's Ghilli

On its 11th day at the Indian box office, Tumbbad has achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing Ghilli to become the highest-grossing film in India during its re-release. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and featuring Sohum Shah, Tumbbad initially underperformed in theaters but has made a stunning comeback.

Following its second weekend, the film’s re-release has generated over Rs 20 crore net. It now holds the title for the highest-grossing re-release in the country, overtaking Ghilli, which was a massive hit when it was released in the mid-2000s.

With a total net collection of Rs 33 crore and strong performance continuing into its second week, _Tumbbad_ is on track to potentially reach a final total of around Rs 45 crore. The filmmakers are also exploring a broader international release, which could further enhance the film’s success.

The top grossing re-releases in India showcase a diverse array of films and impressive earnings. Leading the list is Tumbbad, which has grossed Rs 26.5 crore in just 10 days, tying with the iconic Ghilli, also at Rs 26.5 crore. Following closely is Titanic, with Rs 18 crore, while Sholay 3D has garnered Rs 13 crore. The romantic drama Laila Majnu collected Rs 11.5 crore over 45 days, matching the earnings of Rockstar, which also reached Rs 11.5 crore. Lastly, Avatar rounds out the list with a total of Rs 10 crore.

Tumbbad has made a significant impact with its impressive box office collections. On Day 8, the film earned ₹3.04 crore, followed by ₹2.50 crore on Day 9 and ₹2.59 crore on Day 10. This upward trend continued into Day 11, where it added ₹1.06 crore to its total, bringing its overall earnings to ₹22.63 crore. The film’s ability to surpass its first weekend’s earnings during the second weekend showcases the growing interest and positive word-of-mouth, attracting both new viewers and fans of the original release.

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and creatively guided by Anand Gandhi, Tumbbad has captivated audiences with its unique blend of horror and fantasy, coupled with exceptional visual storytelling. The film’s re-release, presented by Eros International and Aanand L Rai, has reignited interest and enthusiasm among viewers, demonstrating its lasting impact and relevance.

The film’s success is particularly notable because it achieved these historic numbers without any availability on OTT platforms. The exclusive theatrical run has generated significant buzz and enthusiastic support, underscoring the importance of experiencing classic films on the big screen where their full artistic and emotional impact can be fully appreciated.
