Vikrant Massey, currently riding high on the success of his last released film 12th Fail, announced his next project on Tuesday. The actor shared the teaser of his upcoming film titled The Sabarmati Report on Instagram. The short video suggests that the film is based on the tragic burning of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra, Gujarat, 22 years ago on February 22, 2002. Vikrant, in the film, will be essaying the role of a journalist Shraban Kumar, who firmly announces that it was not an accident, sitting in his studio.
Sharing the intriguing teaser, Vikrant captioned, “Paying homage to the 59 innocent people who lost their lives in the Godhra train burning incident 22 years ago, today. Presenting ‘The Sabarmati Report’, in cinemas on 3rd May, 2024. (sic).”
Earlier this year, the makers of The Sabarmati Report, officially announced the film, inspired by the real-life event of the 2002 Sabarmati Express fire. Produced by Ekta Kapoor, the film also features Raashi Khanna and actor Riddi Dogra apart from the 12th Fail actor in the lead roles. While Raashi made her Hindi film debut with Farzi, Riddhi Dogra was last seen in Jawan. Directed by Ranjan Chandel, the upcoming film has been co-produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Amul V Mohan, and Anshul Mohan.
Meanwhile, Vikrant Massey’s last film, 12th Fail, was showered with immense applause from the audience and the critics alike. Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the film depicted the life of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma. The film was released in October 2023 in theatres. However, after its premiere on the OTT platform Disney Plus Hotstar in December 2023, the film gained widespread popularity and became a super hit. Not only the audience but celebrities including Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, and Kangana Ranaut also heaped praises on the actor for his incredible performance.
Next, Vikrant is eyeing the release of the second installment of his film Haseen Dillruba. It has been titled Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba. The film is expected to be released by the end of 2024.
