The Marvels movie review: Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris & Iman Vellani come together to give an adrenaline rush experience

Cast: Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Park Seo-joon, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, and Samuel L. Jackson Director: Nia DaCosta Language: English with a bit of Hindi In recent times, MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) has failed to live up to fans’ expectations with films like Eternals and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania underperforming due to their ’not so good’ content. However, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was some redemption. And now, their latest offering The Marvels, which serves as a sequel to the 2019 movie Captain Marvel , the 2021 TV series WandaVision, and the 2022 TV series Ms Marvel, comes out as a concoction of sweet, wacky and delightful elements that results into an adrenaline rush for the cinegoers. The story of The Marvels begins with the reintroduction of Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers, who is travelling solo (no, along with her cat Goose) through the galaxy in her spaceship and reaching the point of acceptance with the events of the previous film, which included her remedial action of saving the universe that destroyed the planet of Hala (Home of the Kree people). Now, the Kree leader Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton), who wants to take revenge from Captain Marvel for the crisis of Hala, discovers one of a pair of MacGuffiny bangles, or ‘quantum bands’, which will give her enormous powers to break the jump points in space. The messing up of these jump points brings our gang of superhero girls aka three prominent leads together. While Carol is the first one, the second is Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), possessed with superpowers and the now grown-up daughter of Carol’s best friend & fighter-pilot comrade Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch). The last one is Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel (Iman Vellani) a teen superhero, who is a fan of Captain Marvel and her family owns the second quantum band.

Now, Carol, Monica & Kamala have to go all out to save their planet from the nefarious hands of Dar-Benn. Will they succeed in this crucial mission? Well, for that you need to watch the superhero flick on the big canvas. While the plot might give you the feeling of any other superhero movie, what makes it different is the treatment and the sheer dynamics between the three lead characters. Undoubtedly some logics and twists are ridiculous, but they are presented in such a likeable way, that the trio will make a special place in your heart. Talking about the performances, Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani rule the screen with the latter turning out to be the scene-stealer. Zawe Ashton seems to be having a fun time as a vicious villain Dar-Benn. Samuel L Jackson continues to entertain us with his signature character Nick Fury. Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur are super-adorable as Kamala’s parents. With a crisp runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes, The Marvels takes you on an unapologetic entertaining ride. Rating: 3.5 (out of 5 stars) The Marvels is playing in cinemas
