When YouTube sensation Bhuvan Bam stepped into the role of Vasant Gawde aka Vasya, expectations were sky high. Last year, he gave us a show called Taaza Khabar where the plot and his character was all about leap of faith. Leap of faith is something that could be the next step after suspension of disbelief. Since this sensation has played so many characters on his YouTube channel for him to be able to play another one doesn’t really seem challenging. Vasant could be an extension of multiple personalities that the actor has donned effortlessly. And it actually fits well into the scheme of things.
For starters, watching Javed Jaferi is always fun. The actor dances like a dream and is always watchable in anything that he does and in this show, he plays the role of an antagonist after a really long time and it’s so good to see him in superb form.
And then there’s Shriya Pilgaonkar, both enjoyable and minutely miscast as Madhu. She plays Vasya’s love interest. In an interview with Firstpost last year, Pilgonkar had something to say about her character.
The actor revealed, “I wanted to explore a different genre, a different look and character. I really like Madhu, her personality, the way she is, and despite her life full of hardships as a sex worker, she has a positive attitude. She’s also a strength for people around her, and this is a story that’s so poignant and fun, and people will be able to relate to it at so many levels.”
She added, “It’s the story about all of us, about dreams, about proving things to ourselves. I loved this concept of this Vardaan coming into Vasya’s life and how it changes things around them. When I listen to a script, I listen to it as an audience. The script itself is so much fun and so are the people, they all are wonderful.”
Most of the actors and actresses will definitely say good things about any film or series they are a part of. _Taaza Khabar_ season two feels underwhelming and overcooked with Bam carrying both on his shoulders and trying his hardest to reach the finish line. The plot about a man who has been gifted with magical powers to be able to see the future feels delightful, but also stretched and unfortunately unnecessary. Maybe the makers should know the Khabar feels Taaza only for a day.
