Suzhal: The Vortex was a unique and one of a kind show that stopped on Prime Video back in 2022. The showrunners Pushkar and Gayatri, who also directed Vikram Vedha, showed their understanding of the milieu they chose for their work. Suzhal dug deeper and wasn’t a regular whodunnit that revolves around finding the killer or the culprit. The socio-political world sucked you in its drama from the word go. But yes, the makers didn’t forget to weave elements of mystery and intrigue around the story. And in season two, it’s all about going far deeper than they did in season one back in 2022.
In 2025, now we have a murder looming large on the central characters and things have become darker and far more dangerous. The one thing that stands out in the franchise is the ensemble that benefits immensely from anonymity. When Hrithik Roshan played the character of Vedha in Pushkar and Gayatri’s Hindi remake, it was a star playing a character. In Suzhal, the characters are benefiting the actors. And to make maters better, the stunning camerawork and cinematography by Abraham Joseph does wonders to the atmospheric world created by the team.
It’s tricky to write about shows like Suzhal that offer a lot and attempt to stand out. When you have a show that’s brave enough to assemble all ingredients into one and not falter or fumble, it’s more than half the battle won. It’s a slow burn but yes, it does get restless in between but still manages to keep you hooked. It’s a show that highlights the culture of the world it shows and how it can have a grave impact on its people. It’s a show that’s imperfect but important. It’s as unique and unconventional as its title. Check it out!
